ELATION!

So as you know, I have really been wanting to get into running for several years. I dream about it on a regular basis, but I always felt that my weight was holding me back from actually being a runner (because, let's face it, who has ever seen a fat runner?). Plus each time I tried I would get about a minute into it, be tired, out of breath and my calves and thighs would be begging for the sweet release of amputation. So I've held onto my dream and tucked it away in the "Some Day" box in my mind. There's lots of things in that box. Such as, learn a new language. Make a quilt. Start a nest egg. Get out of debt. You know, the dream category of life. But I digress, this is a blog about running. Today at work I hit up a runner friend of mine, RL and asked her how things were going on that front. She has a 9 month goal of running 200 miles so I figured she of all people would be pretty knowledgeable and would be able to get me amped to try running again. She told me about a program called "Couch to 5k" which, as you guessed, is a training program to help beginner runners to work up to being able to run long distances, or in my case, longer than 2 minutes at a time. I checked it out and decided it was exactly what I needed. So tonight when I got off work at 4 am, I put on my tennis shoes, strapped the boulders into a sports holder and set out. And I actually succeeded. 20 minutes of exercise. 8 of those minutes spent actually running. wow! That was thrilling to say the least. Of course my legs and calves were screaming for amputation on minute #2 of the running, but I chose to not listen. I chose to finish what I had started, and I did. And I feel like a million katrillion dollars.
